Daist practicing prayer of changes...

I don't know why this joke makes me think of Adidam, but it does...

Bill Krenz making his breakfast:

"Damn, all out of Pop-Tarts and still no word from Publishers Clearing House!"

The dynamic of lots of guru/spiritual groups is indeed similar to Publishers Clearinghouse sweepstakes. Both can be manifestations of people looking for magical forces outside themselves to appear and solve all their problems. They represent the beautiful hope that someone or something out there awaits to grant us great rewards... rewards that are more than we've earned, more than we deserve.

I've written about the common roots of Religion and Gambling here:

That reminds me, during the Garbage & Goddess days, according to a dear friend of mine, "the vibe around Da felt just like Las Vegas"...

Just roll them ivories, ya hapless Dasters...

PS: Frank used to say that people "are addicted to their suffering." Same with gamblers, I think.

A great poker guru said that most players secretly/unconsciously believe that the universe is out to get them, that they are luckless hapless helpless beings. When they e.g. play poker badly, then each time they lose, it's confirmation of this belief. In some weird way, people find it comforting to get confirmation that the universe is out to get them, just as they always suspected.
